The chopped up woman found in Buhangin was a special child, her father revealed.
Sopriano Maturan Albarico, 68, said his daughter, Margie Sapio Albarico, 31, single, of Purok 4-B, Aranas Compound, Matina Pangi, Talomo District, was a deaf-mute child.
Sr. Insp. Maria Theresita Gaspan, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said the elder Albarico, a carpenter from Barangay Tibungco, Bunawan District, positively identified the victim.
Albarico told investigators he went to Angel Funeral Homes after hearing on the radio Sunday night the report about the unidentified woman found in Buhangin.
The father revealed that his daughter left home at around 3 p.m. of July 26, Thursday, and failed to return home.
As investigators are digging deeper into the case, police said they are not discounting the possibility of human organ trade.
“It’s one of the angles we are considering,” Gaspan said.
Describing the crime as a “brutal killing,” the DCPO spokesperson said she could not imagine why such a special child died in such a way.
“What (was) the sin of the victim?” Gaspan asked.
For now, police are still reviewing footages of closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) from establishment around the area where the body was found early Sunday morning. Police failed to immediately review CCTV footages as establishments in the area were mostly closed on Sunday.
The footages may help the investigators trace whoever threw the garbage bag that contained parts of the victim’s body.
With the incident, Gaspan said the DCPO is further tightening its security deployment “so we can prevent this kind of incident.”
She said they are intensifying their advocacy campaign particularly in the barangays to deliver safety measures so this will not happen again.
At 5:45 a.m. Sunday, garbage collector Ranel Somayang Paña, 37, discovered the garbage bag in front of Pag-asa Pawnshop along Cabantian Road in Barangay Cabantian, Buhangin District.
Paña and his City Environment and Resources Office (Cenro) co-workers endorsed the body to the Buhangin Police Precinct.
Case investigators SPO1 Ian Irvin Fernandez and PO3 Alex Niño Domagas brought the chopped up body to the Angel Funeral Homes along F. Torres Street.
The body was dismembered. The head and both arms and legs were cut from the body.
The lower portion of her stomach down to the thigh is still missing.
