THE GIDLAW: World Choral Day 2024 will host its grand Festival Concert of Choirs event featuring over 30 performers and two orchestras from Mindanao at the SM Annex Activity Center on Dec 8.
In celebration of the 14th World Choral Day Festival, this year’s three-day event is the biggest gathering of choirs all over Mindanao.
Festival director Engr. Jairus Rosello said they expect more than 800 performers to join the celebration.
The festival provides local performers a platform to showcase their talents in choral singing in front of a crowd. The event is also in line with the month-long Pasko Fiesta 2024, which officially launched on Nov. 28.
According to festival consultant Alvin Aviola, the choir scene in Davao City is energetic and active but the problem lies in the lack of guidance as most conductors are not musically trained or educated.
“Choral singing is one of the most accessible forms of music and we hope to be able to open the eyes of many of our members of the Davao community. And hopefully promote the art of choral singing in churches, communities,” Aviola said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw.
Before the concert, a two-day masterclass series workshop will be conducted as part of the festival with guests from Manila from Dec. 6 to 7 at the UCCP Congregational Church at the Crossroad with expected participants of around 120.
