THE CITY Health Office (CHO) will conduct a tuberculosis (TB) active case finding in IP communities at 57 barangays from June until December 2025.

TB program focal person Dr. Nikita Marie Jamiana-Reyes said there are around 2,000 TB cases in the first quarter of 2025 and reassured that it is not alarming, as services are ready to address the matter and cater to TB patients.

Jamiana-Reyes added they will also screen at least 643 cases per 100,000 population, the incidence rate for TB in the Philippines. For every barangay, 500 individuals are targeted for screening via chest X-rays.

She shared that the program was initiated last October 2024 with a series of orientations to educate the barangay officials on the misconceptions surrounding TB.

In the month of June, CHO began at barangay Sto. Nino and will visit other barangays Sibulan, Atan-awe, Mabuhay, and many more along with district health offices at Tugbok, Toril, Paquibato, Calinan, Marilog, and Bunawan.

Services offered during the period are screening/testing (X-ray and sputum test), consultations, immunizations, counseling, and others.

Last year, Davao City registered 8,601 TB cases, which grew from the 8,212 cases in 2023 and the 7,918 in 2022. The highest number of cases was reported at Talomo South with 462, followed by Buhangin with 453, and Agdao with 435.
