CHO to conduct surprise water potability test in housing developments

THE CITY Health Office will conduct random tests on some housing unit developments to ensure residents enjoy safe drinking water.

Councilor Louie John Bonguyan, the chairman of the committee on water and medium housing, emphasized this after knowing that some developers refuse to turn over their systems to the Davao City Water District (DCWD).

“To be fair to every homeowners, I requested the City Health Office to conduct our own water potability testing, kumbaga third party,” Bonguyan said during the Aprubado sa Konseho, July 23.

The CHO will invite both unit owners and developers to witness the water testing.

On his May 21 ASK guesting, Bonguyan told reporters that homeowners of four housing developers wrote an appeal to address inadequate and inappropriate water management in their units.

Bonguyan said two of the four developers already turned over their water systems to the DCWD. This includes Sta. Lucia South Pacific side, and Johndorf in Talomo.

“So far, during our public hearings, two out four developers decided to allow DCWD to supply water to their housing, which I am thankful to address water problems of their owners,” Bonguyan said.

Negotiations with one developer on the other hand are still ongoing, while the other one insisted they provide potable water to their unit owner, despite problems raised by their unit owners.

Bonguyan said BP Waterworks, partner water provider of 8990 Housing Development Corp. insisted they have undergone necessary potability tests submitted to the City Health Office.

Housing development applicants are advised to align their private pipelines with the DCWD standards to prevent future complications.

DCWD earlier said it cannot encroach on a private property for pipe-laying without the authority from the developers. Presently, there is no existing policy to regulate the developers and pressure them to turn over water management to the water district.
