THE CITY Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Parks and Playground Division revealed on Thursday that Roxas Greenway Park will be opened to the public in the first quarter of the year.
With this, the office is considering relocating the Roxas Night Market vendors. The development of the almost P40 million park began in the last quarter of 2023 and completed in the last quarter of 2024.
Engr. Juancho Dagasohan, Parks and Playground Division head said during the Ispeak Media Forum on Thursday the launching of the park is set before the Araw ng Davao in March.
“The park features a physical fitness area with equipment, and seats where parkgoers can use. It will also be well-lit for people to enjoy during the night,” Dagasohan said.
Dagasohan shared that the opening of the park however might compromise the night market vendors.
Before the development of the park in 2023, a proposal was to permanently relocate the night market vendors to the area on the Davao City Coastal Road, particularly in the Bago Aplaya Esplanade parking lot.
Another proposal was also considered to reposition the vendors on the other side, which will require a space between the park and the market, making the market not directly involved with the park.
“The city government allocated a huge amount for the enhancement of the park, basin ang ginagmay nga tiangge mao nooy makadaot sa atong syudad,” Dagasohan stressed.
This proposal will spare the park from the waste generated by the vendors as according to the official, waste from the market would directly affect the aesthetic and promotions for the park.
He reported that prior consultations were done between the vendors and the City Economic Enterprises. However, he emphasized this is still a proposal and yet to be thoroughly discussed.
The Roxas Greenway Park is the newest addition to the 28 established parks all around the city.
