Cenro commits to collect garbage of 182 barangays

The davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) targets to penetrate all 182 barangays for its garbage collection by this month.

Cenro acting head, Dolly Remojo, updated on Thursday that they are now covering about 160 barangays compared to 120 last year.

Barangays like in Paquibato District are some of the areas that the agency could not reach due to the distance.

If not daily, the Cenro will schedule at least twice a month garbage collection in these far-flung areas, prioritizing the non-biodegradable wastes.

Last December, the agency surveyed barangays in Paquibato to determine other factors needed for the planning and scheduling of garbage collection.

“If you say it’s impossible, it’s not because we clustered areas by barangay. We have already identified collection point that is accessible for trucks,” Remojo said.

She also added that this effort will eliminate waste disposal in the landfill.

The Cenro will also embark on its second set of segregated waste collection by the second quarter of 2019 in accordance with its 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan. “The segregation collection plan was already presented to the Davao City Solid Waste Management Board. Actually, it was apt for deliberation already,” she said.

In 2010, the city already implemented the segregated waste collection however “it was not sustained because of the lack of commitment among barangay officials”.
