CDRRMO buys sat phones, radios to improve communication

THE CITY Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) purchased satellite phones to improve communication and delivery of messages in all operations, particularly in areas where the signal is poor.

In relation to this, CDRRMO head Alfredo Baluran said teams and clusters will undergo basic communication handling training, seminars, and multiple simulations to ensure that the new tools are used correctly, especially during emergencies.

Apart from satellite phones, Baluran also said they installed more radio communication equipment in barangays and high-risk areas.

Through the obtained frequency, it will be difficult for jammers to enter, potentially causing trouble and panic.

Baluran recalled the 2019 incident when supertyphoon “Chona Mae” wreaked havoc on the country. That time, a jammer interfered with the frequency of the office, resulting in the spread of misinformation about a tsunami in the city.

He also said they will not take it easy on jammers who deliberately hack their frequency, as they will prosecute them to suffer the appropriate penalty.
