Cardema slams fellow lawmakers for targeting Duterte and not NPAs, criminals

DUTERTE Youth Party-list Rep. Drixie Cardema criticized her fellow lawmakers during the quad committee hearing on Nov. 13.

The congresswoman questioned the priorities of her colleagues, arguing that they were unfairly targeting former President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte who have dedicated their lives to serving the Filipino people.

Cardema emphasized that the committee should instead focus its attention on the New People’s Army (NPA), a communist rebel group, whose goal is to overthrow the government. She criticized her colleagues for not condemning the NPA’s violence.

“The NPA recruits young people to overthrow the government and kill police, soldiers, and government troops. Yet, you don’t condemn their killings,” Cardema stressed.

“What you’re condemning now are the two individuals who have been the most trusted leaders of the nation and who have tirelessly worked to protect millions of Filipinos,” she added, referring to the leaders being investigated.

Cardema was the only congressperson present at the hearing who defended and highlighted the legacy of former President Duterte.
