Call for nominations for 1st IBP Human Rights Award

IN CELEBRATION of International Human Rights Day in December, the Integrated Bar of the  Philippines will present the IBP Human Rights Award to three human rights lawyers,  each coming from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. 

Members of the IBP are encouraged to nominate a lawyer who they believe deserves recognition for their exemplary service in promoting, protecting, and defending human rights in the Philippines. 

The inaugural awarding of the IBP Annual Human Rights Award will be held on  December 5, 2024, after the IBP Annual Human Rights Symposium on the same date.  It is the vision of the IBP that the Annual Human Rights Award will be given out every  International Human Rights Day each year. 

The criteria for the awardees are as follows: 

  1. The nominee must have a proven track record in human rights litigation or a strong  human rights advocacy, within the last five (5) years; 
  2. Impact of the nominee’s work in the promotion, protection, and defense of human  rights, and enjoyment of human rights; 
  3. Recognition of the beneficiaries or community of the human rights contribution of the nominee. The person nominating must submit a testimonial or support  statement/s from the community or clients as to the impact of the nominee’s work  on them, as well as other proof of the nominee’s human rights track record; and 
  4. The nominee’s acceptance of the nomination. 

As a reminder, only IBP members can nominate. Human rights groups or advocates can nominate through their human rights lawyer or an IBP member. 

The Nomination Form with Annexes must be completed and submitted online at  ibphumanrights@gmail.com or hard copies of the Nomination Forms with Annexes may also be sent to our headquarters at IBP Human Rights Committee, Integrated Bar of the  Philippines Building, No. 15 Doña Julia Vargas Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City, 1600.  For faster assessment and feedback, we encourage online submissions through email. 

Nominations are open from Oct. 17, 2024, until Nov. 17, 2024. 

A panel of at least three human rights advocates will select the awardees from the list of nominees submitted. Awardees will be announced on November 30, 2024. Each will receive a Human Rights trophy and a cash award of PHP 50,000.00. The IBP will also shoulder the travel and accommodation of the awardees. Awarding will be held on December 5, 2024, in  Metro Manila.
