CAgrO distributes fertilizers to 200 cacao farmers

AROUND 200 cacao farmers from various districts received sacks of Yara fertilizers from the City Agriculturist Office (CAgrO) on June 6.

In a statement, CAgrO head Edgardo Haspe said the initiative will further support the cacao production of farmers in the city.

“Cacao is considered to be one of the primary commodities in Davao City, that’s why we give the industry the support it needs, and one of it is by distributing fertilizers to at least improve its productivity of cacao in the city,” Haspe said.

Farmers also received free cacao seedlings from the office and attended cacao rehabilitation seminars discussing processes for maintaining cacao, improving productivity, and minimizing pest infestation.

Haspe reminded the local farmers not to cut their cacao trees as there is still a high global demand for cacao production and producers could not keep up due to a lack of supply.

“We conduct a series of seminars in the districts since we have agricultural technologists to conduct trainings and seminars. Our personnel also conduct farm visitations for technical follow-up so that we can provide farmers with the technical assistance they need],” he added.

CAgrO also urged farmers to regularly reach out to their district offices should they need assistance and support.
