Buy-busts in Davao, Tagum net P1.17-M in drugs

TWO INDIVIDUALS, including a high-value drug personality, were arrested in a buy-bust conducted by elements of the Buhangin Police Station at 1st Street, Barangay 76-A Ecoland, around 7:25 p.m. on Aug. 3.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified them as Vanvic M. Vocal, 40, single, jobless, and driver Genesis D Larica, 41, married, both residents of Purok 32, Barangay 76-A Bucana.

Tuazon said Vocal was considered a Top 8 high-value individual at the city level.

According to the report, a police poseur buyer purchased a sachet containing shabu from the suspects in exchange for P3,000. They further seized from Vocal another five sachets of shabu weighing 9.9 grams with an estimated street market value of P158,400.

The suspects will be charged with violating Republic Act 9160 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act 2002).

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested Maria Shalika Cheng February, 41, married, and Junric Punay, 34, single, both residents of Tagum City, in a buy-bust in Purok Marilag 1, Osmena Street, Barangay Magugpo Poblacion, Tagum City, Davao del Norte, around 4:25 p.m. on August 3.

Nephi Noli Dimaandal, the spokesperson of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) XI, said more than P1 million worth of drugs were seized from the two suspects.

According to Dimaandal, the two sold 50 grams of suspected shabu to a PDEA agent for P200,000.  

The buy-bust was a joint operation of the PDEA XI, led by director Naravy Duquiatan, Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office, and Tagum City Police Station.

Moreover, the operating team seized four sachets of shabu in different sizes weighing more or less 150 grams with an estimated value of P1,020,000, drug paraphernalia, and the buy-bust money were in the operation.

The vehicle they used in their illegal drug activities was also confiscated.    

The suspects face a case for violating Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Section 12 (Possession of Drug Paraphernalia), and Section 26 in relation to Section 5 (Attempt or Conspiracy), Article II of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
