THE 2024 NBA Draft was filled with anticipation and excitement in waiting for the young and upcoming stars to get drafted. One moment stood out in this year’s draft as Lebron “Bronny” James Jr., son of NBA Star Lebron James, joins his Dad with the Lakers as the Lakers draft him 55th overall.
This moment becomes the first time in NBA history that there will be an active father-and-son-duo in the league.
Bronny James starred in Sierra Canyon in Los Angeles averaging 14 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. He then decided to pursue his college at the University of Southern California (USC) but suffered a cardiac arrest before playing his first game in college.
A lot of medical tests were made to make sure he was fine to play competitive ball.
His only season wearing the USC jersey was underwhelming averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and shooting 36% from the field. He chose to leave USC and declare for the NBA Draft.
According to scouts, “He is a 6 foot 2 with a jump shot that lacks consistency but his passing, physical, and IQ skills are great.”
Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said that Bronny is a person with high character and works extremely hard, making him a perfect player for their developmental program.
The draft also highlighted other prospects with Zaccharie Risacher being the first overall pick to the Atlanta Hawks and Alex Sarr going to the Washington Wizards as the second pick. The Lakers also drafted Forward Dalton Kneetch from Tennessee with the 17th pick in the first round.
The Lakers drafting Bronny creates a moment that people will remember especially for his Father Lebron James. With retirement being close, Lebron adds another achievement to his wonderful accomplishments and that’s playing with His son on the court before closing his chapter in basketball history.
