Bomb joke lands OFW in jail

AUTHORITIES filed a case on Monday, Jan. 30 against a 59-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) over a bomb joke at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport.

According to the Aviation Security Unit-Davao (AVSEU) XI report, a case for violation of P.D. 1727 (False Bomb threat) was already filed against the OFW before the City Prosecutor’s office around 3:51 p.m. on Monday.

The report said one of the airline’s customer service testified that the passenger uttered a bomb joke to a flight attendant during the boarding process for the Manila-bound plane. This prompted duty personnel who received the report to respond and immediately arrest the passenger.

She was brought to the Davao International Airport Police Station for investigation and temporarily detained at the Panacan Relocation Police Sub-Station.

“The Avsegroup, along with airline operators and airport authorities, will not take this joke lightly. I sternly warn those who still do not understand the effect of bomb jokes to refrain from doing it. Otherwise, they will face the consequences of their action as we will strictly enforce laws and regulations in the interest of public safety.” Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, PNP Avsegroup chief said.
