BFP-Davao on red alert status for Holy Week

THE BUREAU of Fire Protection (BFP) in Davao City will be on full alert status effective today until March 31 in response to the activation of BFP Oplan Semana Santa and Lakbay-Alalay.

In a radio interview on March 26, Fire Inspector Frances Sendrijas, Davao City Fire District Public Information Unit chief, said different stations under Davao City Fire District, will be having firetruck visibilities in different areas, standby in different churches, including ports and airports.

“We will be establishing a first aid service team in different churches, especially for the upcoming activities during Semana Santa, such as the Way of the Cross, Station of the Cross visit, and on Easter Sunday,” Sendrijas said.

She said all personnel under the fifteen stations within Davao City are deployed.

Sendrijas also noted that “every station will establish a motorist assistance desk/center in coordination with the PNP and LGU along major thoroughfares.”

Fire trucks are to observe regular roving activities, especially on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, to intensify awareness campaigns on fire safety and prevention.

She also urged the public to constantly follow fire safety tips such as avoiding octopus wiring, overcharging, and cooking.

“Also, disconnect LPG connectors if nobody is left at home, and then as much as possible, we must have a standby fire extinguisher at home,” she added.

BFP will also be in close coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Government, Regional Disaster Risk and Rescue Management Council, and each Local Disaster Risk and Rescue Management Council to ensure public safety.
