Davaoeños are warned against bogus people soliciting for food or money on behalf of the Davao City Police Office.
In an interview with Davao City Disaster Radio, Mayor Sara Duterte said they received reports of certain people handing out typewritten solicitation letters from house to house.
“From what I’ve heard, these were well-dressed individuals and would say they were the real marginalized ones who were affected by the current situation,” she said.
She said some of these unscrupulous individuals would knock on doors and ask for cash and food, telling homeowners it is intended for the police. Duterte stressed that the members of the Davao City Police Office or Philippine National Police are provided with enough foods and needs.
“Please note that the DCPO nor PNP did not authorize anyone to roam around and do house-to-house to ask for food for our policemen,” she said.
She also said not to make physical contact with these people as it can be a mode of transmission of the disease.
“The paper they handed to you was most likely being touched by many. They have been passed from one person to another, so refrain from touching anything, especially outside your homes,” she said.
She also reminded the public that roaming around during the enhanced community quarantine is highly prohibited. Anyone who violates the protocol will be penalized.
Even Davaoenos who want to help are advised to avoid physical contact. For example, donors can leave the goods while the recipients can pick them up.
