Banana planation exec yields P2.2-M shabu at checkpoint

AROUND P2.2 million worth of shabu was seized from a banana plantation supervisor after he was flagged at the Sirawan checkpoint in Toril District at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The suspect was identified as Allan Rey Mapalo Peralta, 35, who works for Sumifru and a resident of Purok 11, Upper Piedad, Barangay Bato, Toril.

Col. Consolito Yecla,  the Task Force Davao Commander, said the suspect was driving a Honda XRM 125 motorcycle with plate number 8437 LE when he was stopped at the checkpoint for a routine inspection. Accordingly, he came from Barangay Malamuti, Kabacan municipality in North Cotabato, and was on his way home.

The checkpoint team at that point was composed of one squad of Task Force Davao, led by Maj. Reynaldo Geslaga, and from the Toril Police Station, led by Maj. Jason Baria.

The personnel on duty noticed that Peralta took something from his jacket pocket and tossed it beside the road. They immediately secured him while they recovered the item. They found crumpled paper, now open, with sachets of suspected shabu scattered on the ground.

Seized from his possession were 13 big sachets of shabu weighing about 160 grams, one improvised tooter, and one blue lighter. They also impounded his motorcycle.

Capt Rosario Aguilar, the Davao City Police Office spokesperson, revealed that the suspect is included in the Directorate for Intelligence drugs watchlist.

The suspect is now temporarily detained at Toril Police Station for proper disposition and a case for violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act is being prepared against him.

This is one of the biggest busts at the checkpoint in Davao City since January this year. At the start of 2020, about P2.8 million worth of shabu was seized and eight suspects arrested when the Toyota Innova they were riding was stopped at the checkpoint in Barangay Lacson, Calinan District. Authorities recovered 15 sachets of shabu weighing 179 grams from their possession.
