Ayala leadership engages with The Trilateral Commission

Ayala Corp. president and CEO Cezar P. Consing and chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala address delegates of The Trilateral Commission

MANILA — Key officers and senior leaders of Ayala group had the opportunity to engage with members of The Trilateral Commission during the regional meeting held from Nov. 22 to 23.

The Trilateral Commission is a global membership organization that for decades has brought together senior policymakers, business leaders, and representatives of academe to discuss and propose solutions to some of the world’s most complex issues.

The Philippines, which is a member of the commission’s Asia Pacific Group, has three members: Ayala Corporation president & CEO Cezar Consing, Philippine Veterans Bank chairman Roberto de Ocampo, and Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy president Amina Rasul-Bernardo.

More than 10 years since the last regional meeting held in the Philippines, Ayala Corporation and the Philippine Group worked together to bring The Trilateral Commission to Manila to discuss pressing issues concerning the region, including climate change and energy policy, foreign policy, AI innovations, and technology competition, among others.

Ayala Corporation also hosted a special dinner at the Ayala Museum, which was attended by former Prime Minister of the Philippines Cesar Virata, who was also the first Filipino member of The Trilateral Commission.

In his welcome remarks, Ayala Corporation chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala emphasized how global cooperation through organizations like The Trilateral Commission supports economies by globalizing markets.

“Like many emerging markets, the Philippines benefitted from the cooperation between regions and nations that followed World War II,” Zobel said.

“Global cooperation has encouraged the free movement of capital, goods, and people, which has been net positive for our country,” he added.

Aside from the Asia Pacific Group, The Trilateral Commission also has significant membership from the North American and European Groups. Their regular annual meetings result in joint policy recommendations and published reports that are widely circulated across regions.
