ASU asks brgys’ cooperation in clearing clogged drainage

THE ANCILLARY Services Unit (ASU) called on barangay officials, particularly those affected by perennial floodings, to organize a road-clearing team to help the city unclog the drainage.

ASU head Paul Bermejo said the initiative could further help mitigate severe flooding experienced by some parts of the city.

“If barangays could establish a counterpart that we could also call a barangay drainage team or barangay road clearing team, it would be much better,” Bermejo said.

Bermejo stressed that barangay teams equipped with tools like wheelbarrows and shovels could easily respond in such situations, especially if using ASU equipment will not be optimal to finish the job.

For instance, the canals surrounding EcoWest Drive are observed to have a “100% poor drainage system.”

Following the road clearing from Punta Dumalag to Barangay 76-A last month, the latest operation by ASU was in Mabini, Barangay 31-D. The agency is working closely with the City Transport and Traffic Management Office, City Engineer’s Office, City Economic Enterprise, Public Safety and Security Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Davao City Police Office, and other local barangay officials to improve the poor drainage and prevent more flooding.
