ASEAN coast guards team up for medical, dental mission in Samal Island

DELEGATES of the 10 ASEAN member states participating in the ASEAN Coast Guard Forum 2024 spearheaded a medical, dental mission, feeding program, and gift-giving activity in Barangay Tambo, Babak, Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS), Davao del Norte, on June 6.

The event provided essential health services like consultations, oral prophylaxis, and fluoride application to the local community. A feeding program and distribution of school supplies further supported students in the area.

Heads of delegations and their wives from the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Brunei, Cambodia, and Vietnam actively participated, showcasing regional cooperation and solidarity within ASEAN.

Coast Guard District South Eastern Mindanao chief of staff Lt Commander Angel Tobias said this humanitarian mission by the ASEAN Coast Guard goes beyond maritime responsibilities, highlighting their commitment to community service and providing crucial healthcare and nutritional support to underserved populations.

Tobias said the event serves as a symbol of the broader role coast guards play in society.
