THE ARMY Human Rights Office (AHRO) and the 10th Infantry Division conducted a comprehensive two-day case audit at Camp Gen. Manuel T. Yan Sr. in Mawab, Davao de Oro, on September 17-18.
The audit reviewed 1,886 documented cases of human rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) violations attributed to the communist terrorist group (CTG).
Lieutenant Colonel Carina Odasan-Galano, chief of the AHRO’s Monitoring, Inquiry, and Legal Branch, provided updates on the status and progress of these documented violations.
The audit also aimed to bolster the Philippine Army’s legal efforts against insurgency.
“This event demonstrates the Philippine Army’s steadfast commitment to upholding human rights, even amidst the challenges posed by insurgency,” stated Colonel Romeo Bautista III, assistant division commander for retirees and reservist affairs.
“We believe that safeguarding peace and ensuring the fundamental rights of all individuals, regardless of their affiliations, is of utmost importance.”
The audit revealed that 564 of the documented violations occurred within the 10th Infantry Division’s joint operational area.
The AHRO team is dedicated to thoroughly investigating all reported cases and ensuring accountability for any violations.
