All set for Kadayawan: VM

Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag said all Davaoeños should do their part to ensure that the 33rd Kadayawan festival will be a success.

Al-ag, in yesterday’s flag ceremony at City Hall, said security and public safety during the festival is also the concern of every individual, especially the Davaoeños, participating in the celebration.

He said the city government of Davao, particularly the executive committee, is ready for the celebration.

“I am inviting all the Davaoeños, all the people in the Davao Region, all Filipinos, (and) all foreign visitors to come here and celebrate with us (the) Kadayawan Festival,” Al-ag said.

He assured that the city is safe for everyone, especially the tourists, during the conduct of the festivities.

“Davao City is very safe with the help of our Philippine National Police, Task Force Davao, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and also the barangay officials,” said Al-ag. “Let’s all help.”

Al-ag also reminded the public to avoid carrying pack bags during the activities and to not leave attended bags and packages to avoid commotions.

Urging the public to abide orders of law enforcers for a peaceful Kadayawan celebration, he called everyone to submit to security personnel for inspections for an ensured safety amid the bustle of the festival.

He added that more security personnel will be deployed for a bigger celebration than the previous years.

Retired General Benito de Leon, the city public safety chief, confirmed they will deploy 5,000 personnel – a thousand more than the required personnel — as security for the event.

De Leon also added that they have long prepared for the Kadayawan celebration along with the police and military and the security personnel is 100% set for the conduct of the festival.

The opening of Kadayawan is set on Friday, Aug. 10, with the Subang Sinugdanan at the Magsaysay Park.
