Acosta tops council race with most no. of votes

Reelectionist Maria Belen Acosta topped the City Council race for the first legislative district with 170,755 votes, the highest among winning candidates in all three districts. Trailing behind her was Atty. J. Melchor Quitain Jr., son of former city administrator Melchor Quitain, with 161,655 votes.

A previous representative of the Association of Barangay Captains, Edgar Ibuyan Jr., son of former councilor Edgar Ibuyan, landed at the third spot with 140,116 votes, followed by reelectionist Councilor Bonifacio Militar with 123,780 votes.

Next is Nilo Abellera Jr., the son of former councilor Nilo Abellera, garnering 122,680 votes, followed by is the reelectionist Councilor Pilar Braga with 121,680 votes.

On the seventh spot is a new face in the council, Pamela Librado, daughter of former councilor for three consecutive terms Marlyn Librado, with 118,406. Next in ranking is also a newbie, Jessica Bonguyan, with 115,214 votes.

The transmittal of the results was delayed for hours, which also pushed the proclamation to be finished at 8 p.m.

The Davao City National High School failed to transmit immediately due to some technical glitches pertaining to the SD cards.  Meanwhile, the voters turnout in the first district for city councilors was 58% as only 228,830 out of 388,586 registered voters had cast their ballots on election day.
