First wave of upgrades set to begin in second half of 2025
Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, has officially taken over operations of Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) in Panglao, Bohol, marking a major milestone in the company’s expanding Airports platform.
The formal turnover from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) was completed on June 16, 2025. BPIA, dubbed the country’s “Green Gateway to the World,” becomes the third airport in AIC’s growing airport portfolio, alongside Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) in Cebu and Laguindingan International Airport in Misamis Oriental.“We are excited to officially begin operations at Bohol-Panglao International Airport and bring our brand of operational excellence, innovation, and passenger-focused service to this important gateway. This project is about more than infrastructure — it’s about enabling tourism, empowering local economies, and creating more inclusive growth across the Visayas,” said AIC President and CEO Cosette V. Canilao.
BPIA, the Philippines’ ninth-busiest gateway and a vital tourism hub, is set for a series of planned upgrades under a ₱4.53 billion public-private partnership.
Over the next few years, AIC will expand the passenger terminal building, modernize landside and airside facilities, and install new airport systems and equipment.
Initial improvements will boost BPIA’s capacity from 2 million to 2.5 million passengers per annum (mppa) within the first two years of operations, with future developments pushing capacity to 3.9 mppa by 2030.

We are committed to transforming BPIA into a globally competitive gateway that reflects the beauty and hospitality of Bohol, while helping unlock its full tourism and economic potential,” said AIC Vice President and Head of the Airports Business Rafael M. Aboitiz.
The addition of BPIA further strengthens AIC’s presence in the Visayas, where the Aboitiz Group traces its roots.
With BPIA, AIC’s Airports platform now spans three key gateways in the Philippines, including MCIA — the second-busiest airport in the country and a 4-star Skytrax-rated facility — and Laguindingan International Airport, the country’s sixth-busiest airport, which AIC began operating in April 2025.
MCIA, LIA, and BPIA are part of AIC’s broader strategy to develop and manage infrastructure assets that deliver top-notch Filipino hospitality, better and smoother travel, and seamless connectivity across the Philippines.
