Teen rescued for stroller theft in Matina claims financial hardship

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy was caught and rescued by the Davao City Police Office after reportedly stealing a stroller in GSIS Heights, Matina Crossing at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025.

According to the DCPO report, the complainant, Mona, reported that an unidentified individual had entered her property and stolen her child’s stroller.

Responding officers located the suspect, a minor, on a nearby rooftop and apprehended him after a brief pursuit. The police reported that the minor resisted arrest, allegedly due to intoxication, but was eventually subdued.

The suspect, who was a live-in worker in GSIS Heights, confessed to the police about his crime.

He told police that he had been drinking liquor with his employer and a friend earlier in the evening and decided to go out to buy soft drinks. While out, he spotted the stroller and decided to take it.

He also admitted to stealing a pair of white pants and a t-shirt, which he wore before attempting to steal the stroller.

The minor claimed that he wanted the stroller for his child but couldn’t afford to buy one due to his financial situation.

He was taken to the Talomo Police Station and subsequently referred to the Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) due to his age.

Meanwhile, the case has been forwarded to the General Investigation Section (GIS) for further investigation and appropriate action.
