THE DAVAO Light and Power Company (DLPC) said the overall residential consumers will be expecting a decrease in their electricity rates this January, bringing the rate down to P8.9894 per kilowatt hour (kWh) from P9.2058/kWh last Dec. 2024.
In an advisory on its social media page on Jan. 15, DLPC stated that the rate applies to bills received from Jan. 11 to Feb. 10.
“The decrease is due to lower market prices from the Philippine Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) in Mindanao, a venue for trading electricity as a commodity, and where Davao Light sources a part of its power requirement,” DLPC said.
Davao Light also emphasized that market prices are “volatile”, so monthly changes in power rates are expected.
“Even with the decreased rate, the power distribution utility encourages customers to manage their energy consumption efficiently and wisely to avoid high electricity bills,” DLPC added.
Davao Light and Power Company is the country’s third-largest electric distribution utility holding franchise for supplying power to Davao City.
