- DCPO: Pasko Fiesta 2024 opening peaceful
THE OPENING ceremony of Pasko Fiesta 2024 concluded on Thursday night, Nov. 28, without any security issues, according to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).
DCPO spokesperson Capt. Hazel Tuazon said they deployed 300 personnel to secure the annual holiday tradition, which drew an estimated 3,000 people.
Based on their monitoring, there were no reports of criminal activity that might have hampered the activity.
DCPO personnel worked with the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, the Traffic Enforcement Unit, Task Force Davao, and other security units.
The month-long celebration will feature 15 major events, along with the annual Sing-Along ni Pulong.
Among these events, the City Tourism and Operations Office (CTOO) has prepared five competitions: Koro sa Pasko on Dec. 7, Banda Dasig on Dec. 15, Sayaw sa Pasko on Dec. 21, and Pasko Panag-uban: A Rhythm and Joy Showdown on Dec. 13.
This year, a new event, Mugna sa Pasko, has been added, which will take place on Dec. 15. Mugna sa Pasko is a Christmas-themed creative costume competition, coinciding with the Parada sa Pasko on the same day.
From Nov. 29–30, and on Dec. 1, 14, and 24–29, the City Hall will be serenaded with Christmas songs during Panayegon sa City Hall.
The Perya sa Pasko will also be open from Dec. 1–27, starting at 5 p.m. at the Rizal Park open grounds.
Music in the Park, one of the new activities for this year’s Pasko Fiesta, will kick off on Dec. 7 at Magsaysay Park. The event will also be held at Quezon Park on Dec. 8, People’s Park on Dec. 13, Los Amigos Park on Dec. 14, Doña Vicenta Park on Dec. 20, Magsaysay Park again on Dec. 21, and at Bago Aplaya Esplanade Park on Dec. 22.
A Grand Bazaar at the Esplanade Park in Bago Aplaya will be open from Dec. 26–31.
Christmas on Wheels, or Kasadya sa Pasko, and Kalingawan sa Distrito will take place from Dec. 16–21 at various locations: Calinan Gym, Barangay Crossing Bayabas, Barangay 76-A SIR Phase 1 Gym, Barangay Catalunan Grande Gym, Barangay Cabantian Gym, and Barangay Paquibato Proper Gym, respectively.
