P4.6-M worth of smuggled cigarettes recovered in Digos City

THE REGIONAL Special Operations Group (RSOG) XI successfully recovered 267 master cases of suspected smuggled Cannon brand cigarettes with an estimated market value of P4,005,000 in Purok Mahogany, Barangay Tres de Mayo, Digos City, on Oct. 30

Personnel acted on information from a reliable confidential informant who reported several master cases of suspected smuggled cigarettes. Upon arrival, they discovered the master cases of smuggled cigarettes piled along the road.

RSOG XI personnel coordinated with the Digos City Police Station to document the incident. Local barangay officials were also requested to witness the operation.

Meanwhile, on Oct. 29, 2024, while conducting an anti-criminality campaign within their area of responsibility, RSOG XI operatives saw two men unloading master cases of cigarettes. However, they managed to speed off in their mini-van.

The suspects were arrested in a hot-pursuit operation along the National Highway in Barangay Aplaya in Digos City. During the arrest, law enforcement seized several pieces of evidence, including one green/silver six-wheeled closed van and 41 master cases of Cannon brand cigarettes, with an estimated value of P600,000.

The confiscated items are temporarily stored at the Digos City Police Station for documentation and will later be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.

PRO XI acting regional director PBGen. Leon Victor Z. Rosete commended this significant accomplishment, highlighting the unwavering commitment of PRO XI to support government efforts in protecting and enhancing revenue by ensuring fair and transparent customs and tariff management.
