TWENTY IP artists will perform at the Matolos no Ingod Musical Theater to highlight Indigenous experiences in the modern context at the La Herencia on Oct. 19.
The Matolos no Ingod is conducted, developed, and written by young IP artists from different communities of Davao Region. The crew comprises 30 people with most of the artists coming from the Ata community.
Matolos no Ingod executive producer Kharla Acosta said that Matolos no Ingod provides a platform to showcase the IP’s innate artistry with stories on joy, grief, and reconciliation. It will also involve a story of two leaders about development.
“We always tend to see them [IPs] as beneficiaries and seeing this play would help us understand how indigenous communities have something to offer in a wider context especially talking about development,” Acosta said in an interview.
According to Matolos no Ingod artistic director Bob Ali there will be an open forum after the show involving a conversation between the artists and the audience in exchanging learnings, perspectives, and insights.
Acosta shared that Matolos no Ingod is an output of iEmergence’s two-year intensive training offered to the indigenous artists in Davao. The first run of Matolos no Ingod will be held on Oct. 5 within the artists’ community with community leaders and members to be gathered for a critics’ night.
She added that they are expecting 150 participants to attend the Matolos no Ingod with announcements and updates on pre-registrations via the Matolos no Ingod Facebook page
