A LAWMAKER said on Tuesday that complying with the requirements for improving the Kadayawan Village is underway and the cultural hub will be seen in the next Kadayawan Festival 2025.
Al Ryan Alejandre, the city council committee on tourism and beautification said during Aprubado sa Konseho, operationalization will kickstart before 2024 ends, as soon as the grant is downloaded.
“We are in the process of complying with the requirements, such as ECC from DENR and some other resolutions,” Alejandre said.
The councilor said they are fast-tracking the process as December is drawing near and the budget might be reverted.
“Hopefully this coming 2025 Kadayawan Festival, the facilities, tribal houses, and even tourism hub and others will be improved,” he said.
During the recently concluded Kadayawan Festival, the city allocated a P350,000 budget to refurbish all 11 houses, equitably shared among the 11 tribes.
To recall, the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) received P15 million worth of grants, after winning second place in the Tourism Champions Challenge (TCC) in April.
On top of the P15 million, the office received an additional P5 million from the office of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The project is entitled “Panunod Project: Preservation of the Unwavering Legacy of Cultural and Sustainable Tourism of the Davao City Kadayawan Village”, which eyes to build a cultural peace hub in Magsaysay Park where the Kadayawan Village is located.
A centralized cultural center will be put up to showcase economic opportunities for the arts and products of the 11 ethnolinguistic tribes–Ata, Maguindanaon, Matigsalug, Bagobo Klata, Maranao, Obo Manuvu, Bagobo-Tagabawa, Tausug, Sama, Iranun and Kagan.
Alejandre said the facility will be alongside the 11 tribal houses inside the village.
