VICE MAYOR J. Melchor Quitain Jr. on Tuesday said the “political harassment” claim of Vice President Sara Duterte to the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief is “clear and obvious.”
During the media tour of the newly renovated Session Hall on July 30, the vice mayor
expressed support for the former Davao City mayor.
“Well, based on the open letter, very clear naman ang nangyari, so I support the stand of VP on this,” Quitain told reporters.
He shared that the 20th City Council has yet to discuss the matter as no regular session has been scheduled for July 30, since it’s the fifth Tuesday of the month.
The August body only convenes for four Tuesdays of the month.
The vice mayor added there will “definitely” be a resolution supporting VP Sara passed in the next regular session on Aug. 6.
He is optimistic the tense atmosphere between the VP and PNP Director General Rommel Marbil will be cleared in the next few days.
On Tuesday, Duterte penned her gratitude to Senator Bong Go, Senator Robin Padilla, AFP, and PNP personnel for asking for volunteers to help bolster her security detail.
“Huwag kayong mag-alala sa akin. At hindi ninyo kailangan mag-ambag ng pera para sa security ko. Ang pagtatrabaho sa pamahalaan ay pag-alay ng buhay para sa bayan. Alam nating lahat na bahagi ito ng serbisyo,” Duterte said.
However, she hoped that the security of her family would be reinforced. She also called on her supporters to help thwart threats to her family’s safety. And should anything happen to them, she urged everyone to ensure the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
The vice president recently claimed her police officers conducted surveillance on the house where her family was staying.
