MALACAÑÁNG declared Monday, June 17 a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Adha or Feast of Sacrifice.
Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin signed Proclamation No. 579 issued on June 4 to declare the holiday.
The proclamation recognizes Eid’l Adha as one of the greatest feasts celebrated by the Muslim community worldwide on the tenth day of Zhul Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
Republic Act 9849 signed by former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2009, declares the tenth day of Zhul Hijja as a national holiday for the observance of Eid’l Adha, with a movable date.
“Following the 1445 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended that 17 June 2024, Monday be declared a national holiday throughout the country, in observance of Eid’l Adha,” the proclamation reads.
Eid’l Adha is where Muslims pay homage to Abraham’s supreme act of sacrifice and signifies mankind’s obedience to God.
The Davao City centralized Eid Prayer Council conducted a consultative meeting with the city’s public safety and security office for the preparation of Eid’l Adha observance in the city on June 16 or June 17, depending on the moonsighting declaration from Darul Ifta Wadda’wah Association XI.
