THE CITY Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) announced a new traffic route scheme in Bankerohan Public Market effective June 1.
During the iSpeak Media Forum on Thursday, CTTMO head Dionisio Abude said the route aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.
“Tinguha sa atong office nga mahapsay ang movement sa Bankerohan Public Market, dili lang sa mga tao ug sa mga sakyanan pati na ang mamalengke ug negosyante,” Abude said.
CTTMO will put up signs for drop-off and pick-up points of public utility jeepneys (PUJs) around the market. The lack of discipline in picking up and dropping off commuters is seen as the biggest contributor to the heavy traffic flow.
Affected PUJs are 11 routes including the Buhangin via J.P. Laurel traversing the market.
Effective June 1, the route will be through Buhangin Rd., turn right JP Laurel Avenue (Bajada), turn right Qurino Ave. turn right San Pedro Ext., turn left Don Isidro Marfori Rd., turn left A. Pichon St. (Magallanes), turn left C.M. Recto Ave. (Claveria), through JP Laurel Ave. (Bajada), turn right Dacudao (Flyover), and back to the origin.
Route 2 will take (Maya St.) Datu Bago-Quirino Ext. Generoso Bridge- Sandawa. Meanwhile, Routes 5, 6, 7 10, 10-A, and 10-B will take Marfori- Datu Bago-Underpass-Ilustre Extension-Pichon.
On the other hand, Route 9 will take Brokenshire-Father Selga-Datu Bago- Underpass- Pichon; while Langub and Magtoud routes will take the Marfori-Pichon-Generoso bridge.
Additionally, tricycles from Barangay 5-A that travel to Datu Bago will only be allowed to traverse until the Balite area, and prohibited from passing Rasay Extension. “No entry for tricycles” signs are already posted.
Dropping-off passengers will be in the Balite area and pick-up points in Marfori larayan.
Abude said the units often meet with the trucks dropping off goods in Bagsakan, causing delays in the traffic.
Tricycles from Fr. Selga St. are prohibited from passing Marfori and are only allowed to drop off in Rasay St. Right turns from Fr. Selga to Marfori are not restricted.
Market stall owners will be provided with specific drop-off areas for their goods in Datu Bago, Rasay, Marfori, and Pichon.
CTTMO will distribute flyers to PUJs and tricycle drivers of the new scheme and put up directional signs.
