A LAWMAKER revealed the proposal to establish the city’s first public Internet center is currently pending in the 20th City Council.
Councilor Bonz Andre Militar, the committee on information systems chair, said during the Aprubado sa Konseho, on April 23, that the proposal is currently on first reading.
The facility will be an extension of the City Library and Information Center and is targeted to be established in People’s Park in Palma Gil Street as a pilot area.
“Once the first center will be successful, we will also propose to put up centers in the second and third districts,” Militar said.
Once the ordinance is approved, the public may avail of computer units in the center for a minimal charge.
He added there will be 50 computer units placed in the center which may be availed by students, teachers, and the public, provided they are registered members of the city library.
The annual registration fee required by the city library which is P50 will serve as the charge for the use of units. Parkgoers may also avail of the free Wi-Fi if they prefer using personal laptops.
The councilor said they are fast-tracking the proposal as they have already gained the support of Mayor Sebastian Duterte.
The proposed establishment is also aimed at job generation, as it will feature a training facility to conduct seminars and workshops for job seekers in the city, specifically information technology-related fields.
