THE CITY Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) announced a new traffic scheme from Ma-a Road to the Carlos P. Garcia Highway intersection effective Feb. 22 due to the next phase of the ongoing flyover construction.
During the iSpeak media forum, Eduardo Perez IV, CTTMO acting officer-in-charge, said the new traffic scheme is also connected to the recent advisory of “no left turns” advised by the office last September 2023.
He also said they coordinated with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the enforcement.
“Ang problema is this, sa next napud nga phase, kay by phasing man ang construction sa flyover, una is kanang ginatawag nila’g poste or pier, next is the letter ‘T’, nga ginatawag nila og support, mao to ang itaod aron mag 12 meters na siya. Ang mabilin nalang sa lane diha sa C.P. Garcia is three meters nalang or one lane passable,” Perez said.
Perez said they asked DPWH to first open the closed lane (no left turn) before implementing another road closure.
The new traffic scheme advises “no crossing of vehicles from Magtuod Road and Ma-a Road at the Maa-C.P. Garcia intersection. Vehicles from Magtuod Road and Ma-a Road must only turn right at the intersection.”
He said the ongoing construction had been facing a few challenges such as lot owners refusing entry on their properties unless they are paid by the DPWH, the transfer of electricity posts, and road extensions.
“To reduce the conflict, dili sa nato i-allow ang crossing sa vehicles sa intersection but the U-turn slot is still provided ahead of the intersection. Dili man pud pwede na i-stop nato na because that’s a national project and it will benefit us,” he said.
Perez urged lot owners to cooperate with them to ease the traffic congestion experienced by motorists passing the area.
He added the flyover construction will be targeted to be completed in 2026, as per DPWH XI. He encouraged travelers and vehicles to plan their travels ahead of time to avoid the anticipated traffic encountered along the area.
