THE CITY Engineer’s Office (CEO) said they are in the process of revising the design of the Barangay Malamba Bridge, in Sitio Kibakak, Marilog District, after its collapse last July 24, 2023.
In a statement, Engr. Joseph Dominic Felizarta, CEO head, said they are set to revise the bridge’s design this January with the help of structural engineers “to make it more safe.”
“Gi-strengthen namo ang design, karong January, basin masugdan napud ‘to nila’g padayon,” Felizarta said.
Felizarta said they asked structural engineers to add two separate columns, adding a “Golden Gate-like design,” referring to the California landmark. He added they are also estimating the cost for such a feature.
He also said the bridge contractor was allowed to undertake the project after its personnel underwent seminars, as they are also cleared by the Department of Labor and Employment.
“Gipangayuan namo sila’g methodology kung unsaon nila pag construct para mabantayan namo,” he said.
The collapse of the bridge last July 2023 was due to the lapses in the methodology used in its construction.
