- Pasko Fiesta security plan tweaked and ready: police
THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) has calibrated and completed the security plan for the month-long celebration of the Pasko Fiesta next month.
Meanwhile, the police continue to intensify its anti-criminality campaign as they expect a surge in petty crimes like pickpocketing and theft during the holiday season.
“We already have a security plan and we will update it,” DCPO chief Col Alberto Lupaz said.
Pasko Fiesta is an annual celebration spearheaded by the City Tourism Office usually launched in the first week of December. Last year, the local government introduced and funded 14 events for Davaoeños and visitors, including free treats of ice cream and popcorn for children.
“Meron na kami mga template. Ang kailangan na lang namin ay meeting for every latest na gagawin kung magdagdag o magbawas ng tao. But definitely, we are already prepared for that,” Lupaz said.
Lupaz also said they will conduct Patrol Rehiyon Onse, an initiative by Police Regional Office XI director Brig Gen Alden Delvo to intensify the drive against crimes in the city.
“It’s a fact na pag malapit na ang Christmas season tumataas yung crimes against property like pickpocketing (It’s a fact that crimes against property like pickpocketing increase during Christmas Season). Yung aming Patrol Rehiyon Onse, mas lalo pa namin paiigtingin yan (we will further enhance our Patrol Rehiyon Onse),” he added.
Executive Order (EO) No. 50 by Mayor Sebastian Duterte last year stated that Pasko Fiesta aimed “to share the spirit of giving and merrymaking among the various sectors of society, especially with the marginalized sectors, through the staging of various activities that create a festive atmosphere in the City and showcase Dabawenyos’ talents, creativity, and ingenuity.”
Last Sept. 28, the city police office received 55 motorcycles from City Hall, which will then be distributed to selected police stations to aid in the anti-criminality drive.
The Sta. Ana, San Pedro, Talomo, Sasa, Toril, and Ecoland police stations, along with the First City Mobile Force Company, got four units each while those in Maa, Buhangin, Bajada, Tugbok, Bunawan, Baliok, Calinan and Mandug and the 2nd City Mobile Force Company got three units each.
“Dahil sa motorcycle issued by the city, mas lalo mapapaigting patrolya lalo na sa mga area na mahirap pasukin (The city-issued motorcycles will help boosts our patrols, especially in areas that are difficult to access),” Lupaz said.
“We will definitely double our efforts with regards to that para maputol na di na sila makagawa ng ganyan [criminal activity],” he further said.
