Renew or relinquish

  • Police: Elected officials have until Oct. 18 to resolve expired firearms

THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) warned elected government officials to renew and or surrender expired firearms until Oct. 18, 2023, a day before the start of the campaign for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

DCPO chief Col. Alberto Lupaz said elected officials should comply with the call of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to avoid potential jail time

“Please renew and/or surrender your expired firearms until October 18, 2023, to avoid search and seizure,” he said.

He added that no-renewal of expired firearms falls under the regulations of Republic Act (R.A)10591, which covers comprehensive law on firearms and ammunition and the prescribed penalties.

Therefore, he further said, “It is of utmost importance to adhere to this directive to prevent possible charges that can be filed against individuals who fail to comply.”

Moreover, the director said a criminal charge could potentially pose challenges to their candidacy in the upcoming 2023 BSKE.

Based on the calendar of activities released by the Comelec, the election period will begin on July 3 until Nov. 14.
