THE DAVAO Light and Power Company urged Davaoeños to report tree branches resting along power lines, as this may cause power outages during strong winds and bad weather conditions.
During an interview on Davao City Disaster Radio on July 27, Fermin Edillon, DLPC reputation enhancement manager, said they have a dedicated team that will be deployed to address power lines in peril.
“Importante gyud na magtinabangay ta ani aron malikayan ang mga outages, kay aduna’y outages man gud nga pwede nato ma-control, and there are also outages that are beyond our control (It’s critical that we help each other to prevent outages since there are outages within our control),” Edillon said.
Edillon said the branches might cause circuit trippings.
“Once na naa’y mu-trap sa atoang linya, automatic gyud namo na siya i-off, that is for safety reasons, aron walay makuryentehan (Once our power lines are ensnared, we immediately cut off power for safety reasons, so nobody gets electrocuted),” Edillon added.
Edillon also said they immediately trim or cut trees and branches that are close to power lines as a way to mitigate possible incidents to happen.
“Manghangyo pud unta mi sa tanan na kung naa mo’y makita, particularly sa inyohang mga panimalay, kung naa mo’y makita nga ang inyohang punuan nga gitanom, hapit na mutandog sa among linya sa kuryente, palihog og tawag sa amoang opisina (We would like to request all of you, if there are any trees planted among your houses, and would likely touch our power lines, to please call our office immediately),” Edillon said.
DLPC also clarifies that their office is allowed to trip or cut tree branches even without the owner’s permission, under the Republic Act 11361 or the “Anti-obstruction of Power Lines Act” under Article 6.
