AN ALLEGED gun-for-hire member was arrested on Wednesday by Criminal and Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Davao del Norte agents during a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms in Panabo City.
According to Lt. Col. Milgrace Driz, CIDG- Davao del Norte chief, identified the suspect as Brendo De Gracia Yunson, single, unemployed with live-in partner and a resident of Purok 1C, Brgy. Malitivas, Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
The Search Warrant No. 30-2022 was issued by Executive Judge Gemma Betonio, RTC, 11th Judicial Region, Panabo City dated Nov. 4, 2022.
Confiscated from his possession were a Colt 1911 .45 caliber pistol with serial number 171573R (subject for forensic ballistic examination), steel mag. for cal. .45 pistol; 12 live ammo for cal. 45; inside holster; and sling bag.
Driz said the search was done in an orderly manner with video recording in the presence of Malitivas barangay officials Melanie A. Moreno and Melquiades P. Gehremos.
The suspect was brought to Panabo City Police Station for proper booking, documentation and temporary detention. Meanwhile, the seized items were brought to CIDG-Davao del Norte Provincial Field Unit (DNPFU) for proper disposition.
A complaint for violation of RA 10591 is being prepared against the suspect.
Driz said the suspect was allegedly a member of a still undetermined gun-for-hire group in the area, responsible for gun peddling and proliferation of loose firearms in Panabo City and nearby provinces of the Davao Region.
“The mandate of the CIDG is to take effect the necessary conduct of operations to suppress criminality, maintain peace and order and security with the active support of the community and preempt proliferation of loose firearms and dismantle private armed groups within our area of responsibility,” she said.
She added the operation is in line with the Peace and Order and Security framework of the Chief, PNP Gen. Rodolfo AzurinJr. dubbed as Malasakit, Kaayusan, Kapayapaan Tungo sa Kaunlaran or M+K+K=K.
“It is our moral obligation to bring back to the folds of the law all those who have not known about it. We are encouraging those who have illegally possessed firearms to surrender them at CIDG Offices within their areas of concern and we will certainly continue to uphold our mandate and always ensure to protect and serve the people. We are also grateful to all peace loving people who continually support our efforts, it is our great honor to serve you better,” she further said.
