IN THIS era of zoom meetings and work from home schemes, digitalizarion has proven to be the (safe) way to go. In the effort of reducing the coronavirus infection, a number of public and private companies have resorted to taking work – and leisure – online since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taking the digital route is our very own Museo Dabawenyo. Since the city government has announced that the museum will be off-limits to the public until December 2020, City Administrator Atty. Zuleika T. Lopez has instructed the museum to take the tours online.
“We are glad that Davao Pacific Impact, a company that creates 3D virtual tours, also submitted a proposal volunteering to help us on the said project for free. Everything was in perfect timing,” said Museo Dabawenyo head Winnie Rose Galay Bulig.
Davao Pacific Impact employed a revolutionary camera technology that allowed them to scan the museum interiors to produce an immersive walk-through in high resolution.
With such technology, the company has afforded their clients with 3 immersive view modes for them to have a better understanding of a site – either through a 3D walkthrough, dollhouse views, or floor plans. It also gives them a better sense of floorspace, layout and design.
“We are proud to be the first in Mindanao to create 3D virtual tours. This also allows us to provide our clients with contactless transactions to their prospective buyers,” said Davao Pacific Impact’s Kenneth Gosi Sim Gotera on their official Facebook page.
Museo Dabawenyo’s interactive 3D virtual tour will have various panorama that contains “hotspots” that enable viewers, especially students and researchers, to further explore the city’s culture and heritage.
“It’s an immersive tour where you can navigate freely inside the digital museum. You can click pop-up bottons to learn some trivia and informative facts about the city,” added Bulig.
The 3D virtual tour showcases the history of Davao in 50 Objects curated in an order that tells the chronology of historical events that happened in the city. It is also divided in 3 phases: Colonial Landscape, Revolution and Reconstruction, and Resurgence and Reinvention
The link of the virtual tour will be available until December 2020.
Moreover, Bulig also disclosed that the state-of-the-art Museo Dabawenyo building, which is currently being constructed inside Peoples Park, will see completion towards the later part of 2021. The PhP200 million museum will have 5 storeys and several galleries. A national museum, the project is in partnership of the local government of Davao City and the National Museum of the Philippines.(ianraygarcia)
