THE DAVAO City Bypass Construction Project (DCBCP), a 45.5-kilometer highway designed to drastically cut travel time and ease congestion in Davao Region, is showing steady progress with some key segments nearing completion in the next two years.

According to Joselito B. Reyes, project manager III, the 2.3-kilometer tunnel will be operational by the last quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027.

Media personalities on Wednesday morning were granted an exclusive site visit to the Davao City Bypass Construction Project, offering a glimpse into the infrastructure development set to redefine travel in the Davao Region.

During the visit, journalists entered the northbound tunnel, a significant component of Package I-1. The tunnel, spanning 2.3 kilometers, is a crucial part of the 10.7-kilometer stretch covered by Package I-1.

The northbound tunnel is already 100% complete, while the southbound tunnel is still 120 meters short of the target to be excavated.

The DCBCP is divided into six contract packages (I-1, I-2, I-3, II-1, II-2, and II-3).

Packages I-1, I-2, and I-3 are being financed through JICA loan agreements, while packages II-1, II-2, and II-3 are funded by the Philippine government.

Once fully operational, the bypass road is projected to reduce the typical 1-hour and 44-minute journey between Barangay Sirawan in Toril, Davao City, and Barangay J.P. Laurel, Panabo City, to a mere 49 minutes.

The DCBCP, which features the longest twin-tunnel in the Philippines, will start from Sirawan going to Marapangi, Bato, Lubogan, Bankas Heights, Mulig, Bago Oshiro, Mintal in Tugbok District, Matina Biao, Waan, Tigatto in Buhangin, Cabantian, Communal, Indangan, Mudiang, Mahayag, San Isidro, Lasang, and then Panabo City.

This significant reduction is expected to vastly improve transport logistics and foster the economic and urban development of both Davao City and the wider Davao Region.
