RODRIGO “Rigo” Duterte II, top and first councilor of District 1, said he is waiting for orders regarding talks on taking over the position of acting vice mayor.
“As of now, we have yet to talk about the matter, but if ever, I will just wait for the order from vice mayor Sebastian,” Rigo told reporters in vernacular after the proclamation of winning candidates on Tuesday, May 13.
Vice President Sara Duterte earlier said the legal team of the former president is discussing how he could take oath as a mayor while the investigation and trial are ongoing.
Rigo, the namesake of former president Rodrigo, will soon serve as the vice mayor as his uncle, Mayor Sebastian Duterte is expected to become the acting mayor in the absence of the former president, who is currently detained in the International Criminal Court at The Hague.
Rigo, 26, is the youngest Duterte to be elected to a key post. Asked if he is ready, he responded that he will follow the footsteps of the elder Dutertes.
Despite being a newbie in politics, he said he is willing to preside over the legislative process and lead the City Council, learning from his father, congressman Paolo.
Rigo said he did not expect to land as top councilor. The young Duterte said he will prioritize healthcare, as the former president was mainly focused on safety and security.
