- CTTMO, ASU clean streets of sidewalk occupants
Nearly 95% of sidewalk vendors surrounding Bankerohan Public Market were already cleared by the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) partnered with the Ancillary Services Unit.
One of the CTTMO traffic enforcers assigned in Datu Bago Street, Bankerohan, Reymar Bayato, said the office conducted round-the-clock monitoring of the public market after the implementation started on June 1 of the sidewalk ratio under the new traffic scheme.
“We want to remind the vendors of the progress being made here [Bankerohan]. They should take heed, and not extend their tables and stalls, because if they do that they will be demolished. The rules implemented here will stay, we intend to make sure that Bankerohan will be cleared, and for motorists, we advise them to follow the traffic signs because we are always here to make apprehensions,” he added.
Bayato said there were still violators but only a few, as they also issue tickets in the area for violations of parking, reckless driving, counterflowing, disregarding traffic signs, and loading and unloading.
Under the 1/3, 2/3 sidewalk ratio, sidewalk vendors are given a third of the sidewalk as a display area for their goods while the remaining 2/3 is allocated for pedestrians.
As of Monday, vendors no longer occupy a huge portion of Bankerohan streets as the 1/3, 2/3 policy was observed.
