Pedal Foward to a more bike-friendly community

In celebration of National Bicycle Day, SM Lanang recently joined the movement for a more cycling-inclusive Philippines by taking part in Pedal Forward, a nationwide event spearheaded by SM Cares. This event is dedicated to promoting cycling as an eco-friendly and health-boosting form of transportation.

Held simultaneously in numerous SM Malls across the country last November 23, the event highlighted SM Cares’ commitment to promoting sustainable, bike-friendly communities and encouraging a cleaner, greener future.

Proclaimed through National Proclamation No. 1052, National Bicycle Day is celebrated every fourth Sunday of November to emphasize the positive impacts of cycling on the environment, public health, and traffic reduction. In line with this annual observance, SM Cares held the Pedal Forward event with the aim of bringing together cyclists of all ages and backgrounds to ride for a sustainable cause, while enjoying a day of health-focused activities, workshops, and community engagement.Among the many activities that SM Lanang participated in was the simultaneous Community Bike Ride, where participants were encouraged to explore their surroundings, connect with fellow riders, and experience the joy of cycling in a safe, supportive environment as they rode through a designated route around the mall perimeter.

To enhance the mall’s commitment to creating a bike-friendly environment, participants were also encouraged to take part in a Bike Friendly Check, where they provided feedback on bike accessibility, suggesting ways to make SM Lanang even more welcoming to cyclists.

Through these activities, SM Lanang aimed to inspire people to adopt cycling as part of their daily routine and a key to a healthier lifestyle.

SM Cares is the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, supporting initiatives focused on communities and the environment. Its advocacies include programs for the Environment, Persons with Disabilities, Women and Breastfeeding Mothers, Children and Youth, Senior Citizens, and the SM Bike-friendly initiative.
