87th Araw ng Dabaw opening draws 10,000 people – DCPO

MORE OR less 10,000 individuals attended the opening of the 87th Araw ng Dabaw last Friday night, according to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).

DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon said the event concluded peacefully at 11:45 p.m. on March 1.

“The security and safety clusters continuously sought the cooperation and assistance of Davaoeños, visitors, and tourists attending the events, urging them to adhere to guidelines to prevent any untoward incidents,” she added.

On Thursday, Over 8,400 security forces were deployed to ensure a safe, orderly, and peaceful 87th Araw ng Dabaw celebration. 

Mayor Sebastian Duterte led the send-off ceremony held at Camp Capt. Domingo E. Eleonor along San Pedro Street.

In an interview on the sidelines of the send-off ceremony, Public Safety Security Office (PSSO) chief Angel Sumagaysay said the total security forces already counted the police personnel, force multipliers, and private security.

Sumagaysay said the bulk of the deployment is for the Parada Dabawenyo and the Mutya ng Dabaw.

He said that PSSO conducted security coordination meetings with the City Tourism Operations Office to prepare for the events. The same security restrictions, such as no backpacks and big bags, no laser lights, no bomb jokes, no firearms, and no littering, will be followed.

Bringing sharp objects, drinking alcoholic beverages, and smoking in public places are also prohibited.

Davaoeños are also advised against bringing infants and small children to crowded events.
