Eight-hundred four inmates in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) XI cast their votes for candidates running for the national office. There were 673 males and 131 females who voted yesterday.
Jail Insp. Edo Lobenia, spokesperson BJMP XI, said the Commission on Elections appointed a special election board for the precincts established inside the jail facilities.
“The BJMP Region XI personnel had already been put on the red alert status since Saturday. We coordinated with the PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines to facilitate a fast, secure, and safe election inside our jail facilities,” Jail Chief Supt. Amelia A. Rayandayan, regional director of BJMP XI, said.
The Special Tactics and Response Team (STAR), the elite tactical unit of BJMP Davao, was also deployed in all the jails in the Davao Region to secure the activity.
“In actual fact, our national headquarters and regional office had created the ‘BJMP Task Force Halalan 2019’ that established national and regional command centers to properly address issues, concerns, and real-time monitoring of jail facilities during the election,” Lobenia said.
The BJMP XI has 1,090 registered voters but only 804 were able to vote due to double entry, name discrepancy, and some opted to waive their right.
He said this is the fourth time the BJMP XI hosted the casting of ballots. The previous activities were held in 2010, 2013, and 2016 elections.
