3 flagged at checkpoints for gun, shabu possession

MORE THAN P30,000 worth of shabu and illegal firearms were seized from three individuals at the entry checkpoints in Sirawan and Lasang on Tuesday, July 10.

Captain John Louie Dema-ala, the spokesperson of Task Force Davao, identified the first suspect as Deonato P Modukef, 52, married, and a resident of Nuro Upi, Maguindanao.

He was on board a passenger van bearing plate number 121801 traveling toward the city when flagged down by officers at the Sirawan checkpoint. Upon inspection, they found an unlicensed .380 caliber pistol with a magazine loaded with six live bullets.

Meanwhile, authorities handcuffed Jemar Gomez, 26, single, and a resident of Barangay Consolacion, Panabo City, who allegedly yielded a sachet of shabu weighing more or less 0.80 grams with an estimated street value of P12,800.

He was on board a Davao-bound passenger bus when it stopped at the Lasang checkpoint. 

Meanwhile, at the same entry point, Marvin Peñas Montejo, 34, married, a resident of Purok Aquarius, Riverside, Lasang, was also arrested after he yielded a sachet of suspected shabu weighing 1.14 grams with an estimated street value of P 18,240.

Task Force Davao commander Colonel Darren E. Comia commended the troops for ensuring that no illegal items would get through Davao City.

The suspects were turned over to the custody of the Bunawan Police Station and Toril Police Station, as they face appropriate charges for violating Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and RA 10591 (Illegal possession of firearms).
