30 reservists awarded

THE military recognized 30 reservists from the 1102nd Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion, 1102nd CDC, Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command for their service at a ceremony held at Campsite in Apokon, Tagum City, Davao del Norte, on April 16.

Colonel Ronnie Babac, 1001st Brigade commander, presided over the event and pinned the rank to 17 newly promoted sergeants, nine corporals, and four private first class. 

He also awarded the Gawad sa Kaunlaran and Military Commendation Medal to the reservists.

Babac praised the reservists for their spirit of volunteerism and their role in the community

“Each of you is the embodiment of the spirit of volunteerism which bespeaks the commitment ‘Para sa Bayan.’ Your role is an integral part that constitutes a connecting link to the regular force of the AFP and with the society,” he said.

He also urged them to sustain the peace in Davao del Norte, which is an insurgency-free province. He said, “It is indeed imperative to sustain the peace in our area of responsibility; because having peace means having an opportunity for economic growth and progress where investment and development come in.”

The ceremony was also attended by Col. Josue M. Caberto, croup director of the 11th Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command.

The pinning of ranks and awarding of medals are military traditions that recognize the accomplishment and responsibility of soldiers who are promoted to a higher rank or who contribute to the mission of the command.

In a simple ceremony, Col. Babac pinned the rank to a total of 30 newly promoted reservists comprising of 17 Sergeants, 9 Corporals, and four Private First Class.

The brigade commander led the pinning of rank and awarding of Gawad sa Kaunlaran and Military Commendation Medal to the reservist personnel of 1102nd Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion, 1102nd CDC, Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command Philippine Army (RCDG).

 In his speech, Col. Babac recognized the role of reservist in the community, “Each of you is the embodiment of the spirit of volunteerism which bespeaks the commitment “Para sa Bayan.”

“Your role is an integral part that constitutes a connecting link to the regular force of the AFP and with the society,” he said.

He further emphasized that sustaining the insurgency-free Davao del Norte it has today is a shared responsibility to prevent the resurgence of insurgency. 

“It is indeed imperative to sustain the peace in our area of responsibility; because having peace means having an opportunity for economic growth and progress where investment and development come in,” the brigade commander further said.

Pinning of ranks is a military tradition as a way of recognizing the accomplishment and responsibility that made a soldier promoted to a higher rank. On the other hand, the awarding of medals is a time-honored tradition in the military organization wherein personnel are being recognized for their contributions to the accomplishment of the mission of the Command. 

The activity was also attended by Col. Josue M. Caberto, Group Director of 11 Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command Philippine Army.
