A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING
DAVAO ARTISTS AND CULTURAL GROUPS HONORED
WITH THE GADOR AWARD AND NAMING THEM DAVAO CITY’S
AMBASSADORS FOR CULTURE AND ARTS
WHEREAS, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the Kaisa sa Sining (KSS) Mindanao Network launched the Gador Award in 2020 to give recognition to deserving individuals and organizations in Mindanao who have exemplified commendable work and services in cultural and artistic endeavors;
WHEREAS, the recipients of the Gador Award must have made exceptional accomplishments in creative work, leadership, resource management, education, artist support, audience development, community service, solidarity and partnership;
WHEREAS, Davao artists and cultural organizations have consistently brought honor to the City of Davao with their outstanding achievements not only in promoting and developing Mindanao culture and arts, but Filipino culture and arts to the rest of the world;
WHEREAS, the 1st Gador Award in 2020 honored three notable Davao artists: Nestor Horfilla for theater; Agnes Locsin for dance; and Joey Ayala for music
WHEREAS, the 2nd Gador Award in 2022 once again recognized even more Davao artists and cultural organizations: Karl Gaspar for theater and cultural work; Popong Landero for music; Kublai Millan for visual arts; Kathara Dance Theater Collective for dance and theater; Kaliwat Theater Collective for theater and cultural work;
WHEREAS, these Davao artists and cultural organizations honored with the Gador Award have significantly contributed to making Davao City a “City of Culture” and will no doubt lead the city’s vision of becoming a “Creative City,” that places creativity and cultural industries at the heart of its development plans, recognizing culture and arts as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development;
WHEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that this August Body congratulate and commend the following Davao artists and cultural organizations and name them Davao City’s Ambassadors for Culture and Arts:
- Nestor Horfilla
- Agnes Locsin
- Joey Ayala
- Karl Gaspar
- Popong Landero
- Kublai Millan
- Kathara Dance Theater Collective
- Kaliwat Theater Collective
RESOLVED, FURTHER, that copies of this Resolution be furnished the above-named Gador Awardees; the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Cultural Center of the Philippines; the Kaisa sa Sining Mindanao Network; the Philippine Information Agency XI; the Regional Development Council XI, the Office of the City Mayor, the City Tourism Office, the Museo Dabawenyo, the Davao Historical Society, and other concerned agencies for their information and guidance.
