Ezra Francisquete/UM Main, Intern – The Biodiesel Facility, located at Cenro Composting Facility in Maa, Davao City has already produced a total of 198, 400 liters of biodiesel from used cooking oil since its pilot operation in October 2017.

Engr. Lakandiwa Orcullo of the City Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) and Ivan Cortez of City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) stated in the Kapehan sa Dabaw on Monday that the said facility utilizes 1,000 liters of cooking oil from different dining establishments in the city to produce 900 liters of biodiesel.
Its fuel plant which has the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, (JICA), is used to fuel garbage trucks and other vehicles.
Orcullo clarified during the press conference that biodiesel helps the environment and such type of diesel can help address the emission problem since vehicles using biodiesel have a cleaner emission compared to petroleum from fossil fuel.
CENRO and CPDO revealed that the original initiative collected used cooking oil from various households from participating barangays but later on switched to dining establishments due to the unsteady supply.
